“Programming from the Ground Up” is a book that teaches assembly language programming, particularly x86-64 (64-bit) assembly language. The book has been completely rewritten and updated, removing outdated information and adding additional topics like garbage collection and floating-point handling. The book teaches topics such as the stack vs heap, pointers, and how CPU/assembly instructions build into Python functions. The book is well-written, easy-to-follow, and contains lots of good information. It serves as an exceptional introduction to low-level programming, particularly memory addressing and memory allocators. However, the book will go over the head of those intending to use higher-level programming languages like C/C++, Objective-C, or Java. It is disappointing to note that the book does not work on 64-bit operating systems.
