POWELL,JANE (Artist) Format: Audio CD Traditional Pop Editorial Review
The CD titled "Jane Powell" offers a nostalgic and enchanting journey through the works of one of Hollywood's beloved performers. Spanning two celebrated LP records, "Romance" and "A Date With Jane," this collection encapsulates the essence of Jane Powell's early career, showcasing her remarkable coloratura soprano voice that captivated audiences even in her teenage years. Known for her vivacious personality and stunning vocal abilities, this compilation brings together not only familiar favorites but also lesser-known gems that shed light on her artistry. Listeners have praised the clarity and warmth of the sound, with many noting the absence of overproduction that sometimes mars other classic recordings. The arrangements, conducted by Carmen Dragon, beautifully complement Powell’s extraordinary vocals, and her ability to navigate difficult pieces—like her rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"—evokes a strong emotional response in audiences, both young and old. Fans have described the experience of listening to this music as spellbinding, highlighting an emotional and unique vocal experience that resonates deeply. Overall, this album stands as a testament to Powell's talent and the musical richness of her era. It has rekindled fond memories for long-time fans while introducing her brilliance to a new audience seeking the purity of classic songcraft. **
