- This item is a cubic clear Optical Calcite measuring around one inch in size.Optical Calcite, is a transparent variety of calcite; which often displays beautiful rainbows that flash in the light. It also displays the rare property of double refraction, so when placed over text it will show double the image, slightly offset. Originally found in Iceland, a theory exists that the Optical Calcite had polarizing attributes and was utilized as a navigational instrument by seafarers in the Viking Age.Optical calcite can be a stone utilized to remind one of the double meaning of words and to assist one in communication during difficult conversations.
