Makoto Yukimura Media Tie-ins Comic Books & Graphic Novels Editorial Review
Vinland Saga Book 3 is an award-winning manga series by Makoto Yukimura and is Kodansha's first foray into deluxe manga releases. It features color pages and a slightly larger trim size, allowing Yukimura's artwork to present itself strongly. The volume includes the fifth and sixth volumes of the original Japanese edition and a brief section of questions answered by Yukimura about the series exclusive to the English release. The series explores the histories and motivations of characters like Thorkell, Askeladd, and Thors, and delves into the relations between Thorfinn and Canute. Vinland Saga is an excellent series that has won a Japan Media Arts Award and a Kodansha Manga Award. The battles and duels are well-executed and thrilling, with broken bones, severed limbs, crushed skulls, and blood, while the story and character development are just as important. In book 3, accompanying Prince Canute behind enemy lines, Thorfinn is given the task of protecting Prince Canute, and the two develop a bond. However, Thorkell, a Viking mercenary fighting on the side of the English with an insatiable thirst for battle, catches up with them, which is pivotal to the story of Vinland Saga. The fight scenes are epic, and the story is amazing. Vinland Saga is an artistically brilliant and moving narrative series that avid readers will enjoy.
