It is available in two thicknesses - 3/8 inch cord/rope for dogs weighing less than 50 pounds and 1/2 inch cord/rope for dogs weighing more than 50 pounds. Both thicknesses come in 4 foot and 6 foot lengths. With a Slip Lead, the total length shortens when you slip the Lead to make the collar. If your dog's weight is 70 pounds or more, go for the 1/2 inch. Length selection depends on how close you want to walk your dog next to you. It is not machine washable; we suggest doing a warm water mild soap soak in a sink with a little "swish around" and then hang it up to air dry. If you cannot hand wash it, place in a mesh laundry bag or delicate item bag, then place it in the washing machine, cold water wash, with color towels. Remember to cushion the load with towels in case the dog tack has metal snaps or metal parts to prevent metal from hitting the inside of the washing machine drum.
