Steely Dan (Artist) Format: Vinyl Rock 72H7I1-5P45-00 Editorial Review
**** The recent vinyl reissue of Steely Dan's "Countdown to Ecstasy" has received a generally positive reception from fans and audiophiles alike, marking a delightful return to form for the band’s classic sound. The 180g vinyl pressing is notable for its flatness and cleanliness, although some critiques emerged regarding the choice of a thin cardboard inner sleeve, which has shown signs of wear. Listeners have praised the remastering and remixing job, noting the enhanced separation of instruments and clarity of vocals. Many have found it to be a significant improvement over previous versions, with particular highlights being the increased presence of drums and a satisfactory reduction of background noise. However, a few audiophiles hinted that while the reissue is excellent, those seeking the very best might Consider the more expensive 45rpm version from Analogue Productions, which reportedly offers an even richer sound experience. Fans reminiscing about the original 1973 release have expressed joy at revisiting the album, appreciating its balanced blend of rock and jazz elements—a hallmark of Steely Dan’s style. The listening experience evokes a sense of nostalgia, especially for those who grew up with the band. While some reviewers questioned certain aspects of the sound mixing, generally, the feedback leans towards enjoying the remastered take as a worthy addition to any vinyl collection. With its blend of high-quality sound, nostalgic appeal, and the continued legacy of Steely Dan, this vinyl reissue seems to be a solid choice for both die-hard fans and new listeners alike, inviting them to experience the band’s storied artistry once more. **
