Engine Model Skeleton Engine Plastic Model Smithonian

The Smithsonian Engine Model seems to have mixed reviews and experiences from customers. Some customers found the model to be a fun and educational project, particularly for older children and adults. The size of the assembled model is around 10 inches in height, 12 inches in width, and 4 inches in depth. However, there were several complaints about the quality and functionality of the model. Some customers reported that parts were bent or did not fit well, leading to difficulties in assembly. One customer mentioned that the distributor assembly came apart while screwing it in, resulting in loose silver balls inside. Another customer expressed frustration with the complexity of assembly, stating that it was not meant for children and required engineering skills. In terms of usability, there were reports of the model not working correctly or making loud banging noises. One customer mentioned that the gears in the electric motor setup were stripping once per revolution. Another customer experienced issues with the camshaft, stating that the camshaft lobes were not opening at the right time, leading to 3 cylinders' intake ports opening simultaneously. Despite these challenges, some customers were able to find workarounds for certain issues. One customer 3D printed the cam lobes to resolve the timing problem. Another customer, who had mechanical aptitude, was able to straighten a bent shaft and added a micro on/off switch to the battery box. Overall, the Smithsonian Engine Model appears to have potential as an educational tool, but it may require additional effort and modifications to ensure proper functionality and assembly.
